GLASTONBURY BELTAINE 2011

We are on our way to Glastonbury with 14 spiritual persons in our group. We have all been looking forward to it and are expecting a magical and spiritual adventure with lots of special moments.

For Karin, my wife, and myself it’s the second time we are going to Glastonbury, we’re now going especially to celebrate Beltaine in Glastonbury and are excited to be doing so in the old land of Avalon.

Imagine the energy of celebrating a feast like Beltaine in the old land of Avalon with so many spiritual people who honor the God and the Goddess and the old ways. It is going to be wonderfull! And it is! After the celebration everybody is excited.

But I didn’t just come here to celebrate Beltaine, I also came her to pay a tribute to three munks which have been hung here on the Tor in 1539. I sort of learned about them on my first visit to Glastonbury.

It is my mission to put flowers at the place where they died. I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to do it, but the others thought it was a good idea and wanted to come along.

But we had a very busy programm these few days. And so far my intuition had not yet given me any ideas on how and when. But off course things would take its course, whether I knew it or not.

We just had dinner at an Italian restaurant en went to the local supermarket for some shopping.

We planned to eat together and then afterwards perhaps lay out the Tarot cards. But on our way to the supermarket I realise how tired I am and I feel drunk but, I haven’t been drinking.

I can’t make up my mind what to buy while I’m wondering through the supermarket.
All I want, is to go back to our room in the Dragonfly and go to sleep. I thought it might be the after effect of the drummsession we had in the temple of Herne.

It was a beautiful, magical and emotional event that had a lot of impact on me and all the other people that were there. I decide to go to bed early and to pay a visit to the Tor later that week.

I fell into a deep sleep but awoke at 3 am. I want to go back to sleep but then I can’t stop thinking that this would be a good time to go to the Tor and put down the flowers.

I argue with myself because I hate getting up early and it will be dark on the Tor. I wake up my wife who asks me if I am ok. I tell her I have tot go to the Tor, now.
She wants to come with me but I feel I have to go alone.

I get dressed and take everything I need, including my drumm. Once outside I realise how dark it is. And I dissapear in the darkness. It is strange and yet so familiar to walk through Glastonbury, the old land of Avalon. I start thinking of the three munks and how awfull it must have been for them and why they were sentenced to death.

The first munk was named Arthur from Glastonbury, in the monastery of Glastonbury he was called Richard. He was the abbot there. At around 1530 the king Hendrik the 8th wanted a separate English church because the pope of Rome wanted to annul his 4th marriage.

This is how the Angelican church was born. But Arthur remaind loyal to Rome as did his two brothers, Roger James and John Thorne. And this was the reason those three men were hung, skinned and quartered.

While I am walking alone through a dark and deserted Galstonbury I can’t help feeling I am not alone. I feel someone alongside me, but I don’t see anyone. I hear a voice and try to listen.

Is it the voice of Richard? While walking along the old walls of the Abbey I see some flowers and pick them. Slowly it is becoming lighter, day is dawning. I pick some more flowers along the way untill I have a nice bouquet.

After a while I’m at the foot of the Tor and I start feeling short of breath although I haven’t even started the long climb up the hill to the Tor. I can also feel the energy of the 3 munks. It feels as if they realised their end was near and they were saying their goodbye’s. of her return I feel calm but strange.

I look at the landscape, how peacefull and quiet it is now. To me Glastonbury is the place where religions come together.

Glastonbury is built on the ley lines of Michael and Mary. These male and female energycords cross at the Abey, the chalice well and the Glastonbury Tor.

I take out my drumm and start drumming while I walk up the hill. I quickly remember the old beat; boom boomboom boom. The sound of my drumming echoes through the valley and I feel magic as I look back and see the lights of Glastonbury behind me.

But with each step I take the wind gets stronger and blows through my clothes. While bend over, I struggle forwards. I still have a long way to go. Fortunately I no longer feel short of breath. I feel I’m not alone, I feel a familiar pressence.

When I’m finally at the place where the monks where hung, I start coughing untill I can barely breath.

I draw a magical circle at the place where the monks were hung and call upon the four powers of the elements.

I connect heaven and earth and ask the Devine to send love and respect to this place. I put the flowers at the three places I had in mind, close together.

I’m thinking that it is kind of special that a priest of the old religion is doing a blessing ritual for three long gone monks.

Just like them, at one time I would’ve been hung or burned. I would like to put a tombstone with there names on it at the places where I have put the flowers.

Maybe some day. It is very peaceful and quiet and I feel at peace, I’m done here. I make a portal in the magical circle as I feel I should leave the circle intact. I climb further to the top of the hill to see the sunrise at the Tor.

At the tor I find a place out of the wind. I look out on to the place where I just did the ritual.
Slowly the sun rises and the sky colours orange. I feel the warmth in my hearth. As I look at the flowers I see something special. Exactly above the flowers there are 3 crows circling and casting their shadows. I wish I had brought my camera.

More and more I feel I too had a life here once, and I feel angry about the injuistice done here by Henry the 8th. When the sun is really rising, I start drumming again and welcome the sun.

The sound of the drumm and my voice sounds across the valley of Avalon.

It is great to be here and live this moment. In the mean while somebody else has come to see the rise of the sun and I decide to leave.
As I walk downhill the wind catches my hat and I can’t find it anymore. I was very attached to it but now I guess it got sacrificed to mother earth.

In Glastonbury everything is still very peacefully. At the Dragonfly my wife is still sleeping and I sleep a couple of hours as well.

Later that day we go back to the abbey ruin and end up in the kitchen which is still intact. I start talking to a women who says this is her office she works here but is off duty at the moment.
I tell her about my first experience in Glastonbury and the monks.

She asks if we believe in reincarnation and as we confirm this, she tells us she is a reincarnation of Alyce Cleeve who lived here in 1538 and confirmes my experciences. I videotaped her whole story. It is incredible how things can go in life.

By January 1539, Glastonbury was the only monastery left in Somerset, and on 19 September of that year the royal commissioners, Layton, Richard Pollard and Thomas Moyle, arrived there without warning on the orders of Thomas Cromwell.

Excited the woman (Alyce Cleeve ) tells us some long gone secrets about herbs and what they were used for in those days. Back then they thought that if a herb looked like a disease or a bodypart the herb could be used to cure that disease of bodypart.

And sometimes they were right as now has been scientifically proven. She takes aside my wife and tells her about a natural viagra. I hear my wife burst into laughter and get very curious!

But when my wife tells me how they used this natural viagra I’m not that interested anymore. They would take some nettles and rub them over the penis! No thank you!

Later we enter the Chappel. On my first visit to Glastonbury I accidentally took a picture of the wall, later that picture showed an image of the three gallows where the munks were hung from.

In the chappel some ladies are making beautiful music that originates from that time.

With their permission I record their music. I share my story with them and tell them about my plans to make a movie about those three munks and that I’m going to use their music in it. Then it is time to leave the abbey.

Off to the next (spiritual) adventure!

Imbolc 2012 we will return to Avalon

Blessed be,
Oiram
