Funny, provocative and surprisingly
accessible, MANUFACTURING CONSENT explores the political life and
ideas of Noam Chomsky, world-renowned linguist, intellectual and
political activist. In a dynamic collage of new and original
footage, biography, archival gems, imaginative graphics and
outrageous illustrations, the film highlights Chomsky’s probing
analysis of mass media. A mammoth two-part project, MANUFACTURING
CONSENT is nonetheless light on its feet, favoring a style that
encourages viewers to question its own workings, as Chomsky himself
encourages his listeners to extricate themselves from the “web of
deceit” by undertaking a course of “intellectual self-defense.”
Appearing in the film are major journalists and critics, including
Bill Moyers, William F. Buckley, Jr., Tom Wolfe, Peter Jennings,
Jeff Greenfield, philosopher Michel Foucault, White House reporter
Sarah McClendon, New York Times editorial writer Karl E. Meyer and
revisionist author Robert Faurisson.
The webs of deceit are indeed tangled. Noam Chomsky's view on what really happened on 9/11 give me pause to consider that we are taken only so far by Chomsky in identifying those who seek to control the human journey. Here's a transcript of Chomsky replying to a question about who did 9/11:
“So, the evidence that's been produced, in my opinion, is essentially worthless. And the belief that it could have been done has such low credibility that I don't really think it's seriously--- you know, I'm pretty isolated on this in the west. A large part of the Left completely disagrees on this and has all kinds of elaborate conspiracy theories about how it happened and why it happened and so, ..first of all, I think it's completely wrong...but I also think it's diverting people away from serious issues. I mean, it's just---even if it were true, which is extremely unlikely-- who cares? It doesn't make any significance --it's--it's--a little bit like the huge energy that's put out on trying to figure out who killed John F. Kennedy. Who knows and who cares. I mean, plenty of people get killed all the time. What does it matter that one of them happened to be John F. Kennedy? If there was some reason to believe that there was a high-level conspiracy it might be interesting, but the evidence against that is just overwhelming. After that, well, it happened to be a jealous husband or the Mafia or someone else-- what difference does it make? It's taking energy away from serious issues to ones that don't matter, and I think the same is true here...and that's my personal opinion.”
9/11 is a serious issue, Noam Chomsky. And, the justifications arising out of 9/11 for a growing police state, wars, shredding of the Constitution, media becoming a "Hall of Truth", journalism becoming 'infotainment', controlled demolition of the American economy--all the changes since 9/11 are based on big lies--and you, Noam Chomsky say it doesn't really matter who did it? And, it doesn't matter who killed JFK?
