Here are some of the most spectacular images ever to be taken from various telescopes around the world. Many are of Nebulae within our own Galaxy, regions of interstellar cloud where new Stars are born.

You will also notice images of other Galaxies, which drift endlessly millions of light years away from our own Galaxy, The Milky Way. Galaxies hold trillions of Stars each with their own systems of planets and moons.

Most Galaxies we have so far discovered are larger than 100,000 light years in diameter.
To help comprehend these vast distances take this for an example: If you were travelling at 299,792.46 km a second it would take you 100,000 years just to get from one end of a small galaxy to the other!
