The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."

Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.

Scientology: Inside the Cult

Thanks for sharing Jan. I started this discussion because I have heard about Scientology but never looked it up. So this was my first step to investigate it. I copied the link and info on the subject from the Scientology main page. They talk about truth and light and free will and it almost sounds perfect but they call it a religion and that's where the trouble begins just like all religions. Well I was curious who all knew about this particular religion and look forward to any and all information that could be posted on this subject.

Thanks for sharing and look forward to more input.

My experience about scientology is that if you belong and you have extremely much money scientology can be a nice experience and a nice community. But If you don’t belong or if you run out of money then they v\can and often are violent controlling and people have paid whit there lives. They have left a long chain of wrecked families a string of corruption that crosses the entire globe. They have even managed to make documents from the state archives in Paris disappear under a trial on tax fraud. That is the only time in 300 years documents have disappeared from those archives. They have even taken over a couple of small towns in USA including the sheriff’s department. So they have an impressive portfolio when it comes to resources. But few people can say they lives has been better after contact whit scientology.
Makes you wonder if the Jesuit order is behind it somehow...behind the scenes with a new tact on destruction of the mind and well being. Very interesting indeed.

What it honestly makes me wonder is the movie "What the bleep is down the rabbit h***" is on this website, and that is funded not directly by scientology but it's a sub-group that is owned by scientology. I love this website but I do not know why it's on there, if it proves that the science on the video is true wich I do not know that would be mind blowing.

Wow, Jan...I had no idea about any of that! I confess that I don't know much about Scientology, even after visiting their web site. That is why I visited this discussion thread. If materialism is a huge part of their "religion", then it stands to assume that spirituality isn't...as the two rarely go hand in hand. Zon brings up an interesting question, and I wonder if he may be correct about that...?
